[pygtk] Creating a vertical button

I'm in the process of trying to convert an app from wxPython to pygtk, and
was wondering:

How can I draw some buttons that look like this:
http://binary.twi.gs/buttons.png ?

It seems I must use a drawing area, and a pango layout.  I can't seem to see
how I would go about rotating the text in the pango layout, though.

Any suggestions would be great.
