with pygtk, you can program the application in Python, with gtk you can 
program the application in C or c++ (possibly, I don't know precisely, ask in 
a gtk group).

Obviously, in the pygtk group we believe that Python is a better language for 
our applications.
Main reason is (most likely) that most GUI apps don't do much computations.
