[pygtk] Text outlines/borders in VTE Terminal

I'm writing a small terminal application using VTE Terminal (
http://library.gnome.org/devel/vte/stable/VteTerminal.html).

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to put a small colored border/outline
around (all of the) text on the terminal?

If it is possible, could someone write a small example or point me towards
one?

If a pixel outline is not possible, then can a drop shadow be done? (I
suspect this would be possible by layering dark text underneath the
foreground text with a slight position offset.)
