One of my major roles is as Managing Director of Data Analysis Australia, a statistical and mathematical consulting company that I set up in 1988. The company is now the largest such consultancy in Australia.
Cheryl and I came to Perth, Western Australia in 1976 when the University of Western Australia was the only one offering us both jobs in mathematics. Our intention was to stay for at most two years but things have happened to keep us here. Cheryl has been at UWA all that time, since 1983 as Professor of Mathematics. I left UWA in 1983 after teaching in mathematics and biometrics to join Siromath, a CSIRO start up company.
Our older son James graduated in pure mathematics and information technology and now has a dream job working on the Linix distribution Ubuntu for Canonical. Ltd. His particular area is the Launchpad system that automates many of the steps of managing a distribution. He works from home but attends several company conferences each year, in exotic places ranging from Sao Carlos Brazil to Mataro in Spain.
Timothy graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics from Curtin University of Technology in Perth. He now works for the Centre for Software Practice at the University of Western Australia.
